Title: 'The Kingdome of Great Britaine and Ireland', engraved by J.Hondius and by J. Sudbury and George Humble of Popes Head Alley, London.
An elegant map of the British Isles, based upon Saxton's map of England and Wales, with inset views of London and Edynburgh. There are two medallion portraits. The Royal coat of arms is shown above the London view, flanked by cherubs and an inset of the Orkney Islands. Speed's map is considered perhaps the best depictions of the British Isles of its time, a true work of art.
In very good condition with minor centre creasing, slight browning and the occasional nibble around the edges; half tape reinforcement to the reverse. Pencilled on the reverse is a previous vendor's note 'early issue printed before 1631' and the price, 10 guineas.
