Title: 'L'Amerique Meridionale...', Paris 1719. From 'Le Nouveu et Curieux Atlas Geographique et Historique'.
An elegant small map of South America by Jacques Chiquet. This map is quite rare and is noted for the precision of the engraving but it is also interesting for its retention of an older style of decoration at a time when French cartography was at the vanguard of a more scientific approach. This map shows the entire continent and part of Central America. Original outline colour distinguishes the countries, there is a sea battle in the south Pacific, and there is a decorative title cartouche at the lower right.
The map is in very good condition with wide margins. At the edge of the left margin are some small holes where the map was originally bound into the atlas. There is a small water stain in the right margin. These faults are well away from the image area and would not hinder framing.
