Title: "A New Description of the Shyres Lothian and Linlitquo", engraved by Jodocus Hondius and published as part of the Mercator/Hondius atlas in cir. 1630.
Based on Timothy Pont's survey of Scotland, the map shows the region around Edinburgh. Andrew Hart, a local bookseller in Edinburgh, paid Hondius for the engraving in 1612 but it was not published until the Gerhard Mercator/Hondius atlas in 1630. There is even a dedication to James I who had died five years earlier. This example comes from the first state (pre 1633) with the names of Hondius & Hart located to the right of the title. Later editions have 'Henricus Hondius excudit' in their place.
A clean & clear image, there are some minor wrinkles & paper creases and a few very short margin tears that have been repaired. There are also some very tiny pin holes and minor restorations along the center fold. Overall a very attractive item.
