A very rare map. This is Hondius' second map engraved for Jean le Clerc. On an oval projection after the famous Ortelius world map. This is a rare variant with the signature of Le Clerc and the date in place. This version is much less likely to be encountered than the first Hondius/Le Clerc world map.

There are four medallions at the corners that bear stately female figures that represent the continents, and an elegant background surround.

The map is in good condition with original colour. It has had some small amount of restoration to the verso (it has been backed onto acid free paper to stabilise it and repair some minor tears, and small areas of paper thinning and minor margin loss). Minor crinkling of the paper, but vibrant original colour.
