A handsome map of Britain originally published in Frankfurt in 1638.
Merian based this map on Blaeu's influential earlier work and he added a Stuart coat of arms in the North Sea. The map has an inset of the Orkney Islands and is enclosed in a strapwork cartouche and is beautifully embellished sailing ships, a compass rose and a garland draped title cartouche. Merian's signature appears at the bottom right.
The map is tight at the margins with a couple of small chips - this is reflected in the price, and it would frame well.
